Time shift
If TV insiders are wondering
why TiVo use is down in the summer, they don’t have to look very far. They can probably get their biggest clue by examining the quality of the programming. With so much less to choose from (less of what anybody wants to see, at least), there’s not as much incentive to time-shift programming.
I have a few other tips for the networks, but the most important is this: Start and end your shows on time! If TiVo is recording a program from 8 pm to 9 pm and it actually starts at 7:59 and/or ends at 8:01, I’m probably not going to bother recording it the next time it’s on. This applies to all Fox Sunday night shows, and about half of ABC’s regular schedule. Why
Alias is on from 9:01 pm to 10:02 pm on Wednesday nights, I just don’t know. But I don’t watch it, and that’s part of the reason. Those two minutes of overlap keep me from recording anything else from 10 pm to 11 pm. It’s not worth it.
