London calling
Congratulations to
London on winning the bid to host the 2012 Olympics. Paris, you were a little overconfident, but maybe that’s in your nature. You thought you had it won, but you were run down in the stretch by Sebastian Coe and his commitment to youth. That, if you’ll recall, is what the Olympic movement is supposed to be about, despite the commercialization over the last 30 years. At least we know it isn’t politics. If it were, Tony Blair would have been blasted out of Singapore without a hearing. And New York? You never had a shot, and you should have known it, but you probably carried the day when you were eliminated and most of your votes went to London. And if you’re not interested in 2016, San Francisco will gladly be the U.S. nominee. We even have a committee in place already.
