Friendly fire
President Bush was as dumb as he was arrogant (or is that the other way around?) if he thought he could nominate the White House counsel to the Supreme Court and then claim executive privilege to keep her beliefs and opinions out of the confirmation process. He nominated
Harriet Miers because nobody knew anything about her; that much is known. But did he think she would be accepted without anyone trying to learn something? Arrogant. And dumb. (We do know that she writes lovely thank you notes, but apparently good manners are not enough to sway the right wing evangelicals. Come to think of it, they’re probably not enough for the Democrats, either.)
