Cold Case
For some reason, a lot of TV critics don’t like the musical montages that some crime dramas are using to underscore the perp walks and the general tying up of loose ends at the end of each episode. Well, I’m not a critic and I do like them. And I especially like what
Cold Case has done since the beginning, showing criminals, victims and detectives each getting what they needed to get out of the case, whether it be justice or peace or the resolution of a problem, all shown with a song from the alternative charts or a deep album cut playing dramatically. Tonight’s episode of the show was even a step up from that, with half a dozen or so vintage Bruce Springsteen songs used to highlight the action as it moved through flashbacks from 1980 to 1988. No other program on television uses music as effectively as
Cold Case, and in a vast wasteland of crime dramas, most of which I avoid watching, this is one that’s a must-see in my schedule.
