Invasion
We knew
Lost would be back, but when
Invasion disappeared without a word and was replaced the next week by
Alias, I panicked. You can’t leave us in the middle of a mystery like that, ABC. (FOX can do it, but not you.)
Tonight, after more than a month,
Invasion came back with an episode that not only deepened the mystery, but also showed us (a little more blatantly than usual) what the show is all about. It’s always been a story of faith and belief, but this episode gave us a church full of Survivors beating up a man for trying to take his wife away from them. We also witnessed a strange sort of baptism, with Jesse falling under the spell of the sorority girl. In the bathtub. (Well, it always comes back to the water, doesn’t it?)
But hey, what about Lewis? Here’s a guy who even before he got the water treatment was a man of blind faith, and he believed so much in Tom that he cut his arm off for him. (By the way, are we sure he cut off the same arm that was missing before?) Then, after a little conversation with Kira about her father and his God complex, his faith was so shaken that he went into immediate spiritual crisis mode. Only someone who really needed to indulge in blind belief would get that freaked out when he found out his spiritual guide wasn’t perfect.
On the other hand, what kind of person cuts off his arm because his spiritual guide tells him that’s what God probably wants him to do? I just hope he went back to the swamp and grew another arm, so he can come back and beat Tom to a pulp.
