Everwood
There’s nothing else on television like
Everwood, and thanks to a horrible decision by the new CW network, there will soon be nothing like it at all. For some reason the network, in putting together its fall schedule, decided to raise the moribund, overwrought
7th Heaven from oblivion instead of bringing back a program that explores lives and relationships in a depth and with a keen perception that series television rarely delivers. Tonight’s episode, about loss and connection, was a typically powerful hour that used the death of one character to illuminate the lives of everyone that character touched. We have four years of shared experience to draw from when watching this show, which in many ways is the point of investing the time and emotion to watch any drama. The writing and acting on
Everwood have always been a cut above the norm, and now all we have to look forward to is next week’s two-hour series finale.
