Homecoming
The thing about a show like
Heroes is that no matter what your expectations, something different is probably what’s really going to happen. That can’t be said of most serial dramas. You get to know the characters, and you get familiar with how the writers set up situations, and pretty soon you feel as if whatever the outcome is, it’s something you should have predicted. The world within the show makes a kind of internal sense that way. It’s a little like watching a basketball team that’s had the same coach for ten years. You can call the substitutions and time outs before he even makes them.
But with
Heroes, it’s different. Oh, sure, maybe diehard fanboy geeks can tell you what will (or should) happen, but I’m pleasantly surprised every week as the world within the show gets more clearly defined, and the characters, in all their superpowered glory, become more familiar. It’s not that I can predict what’s going to happen next, though. It’s more that I’m comfortable accepting what I just saw, in spite of the fact that it was totally unpredictable. That’s what keeps me watching, anyway.
