I'd rather be in Tucson
A crisis can really bring out the best or the worst in people. Not much happened in tonight’s episode of
Gilmore Girls. Most of it was spent waiting around the hospital for news about Richard. But we got to see the essential Emily, galvanized by the situation. She was pragmatic, officious, and as enduringly annoyed as ever, using the hospital telephone to order two freezers full of fish, and canceling reservations and getting a copy of Richard’s will faxed. That’s how she kept from breaking down, but she really had no choice, because it’s who she is.
Logan was as organized and affable as ever in the crisis. Luke was thoughtful and helpful (and, at least, present). Babette talked even more than usual, and Sookie cooked more than usual. Lorelai and Rory were the only ones who were themselves times one instead of to some exponential power, but I think that’s because they were trying to hold it together for each other.
And Christopher? The last time he left Lorelai, he was gone for sixteen years, so at least he did a little better this time. But I think she’s beginning to realize he’s not the one she can count on, and deep down I’m sure she knows he’s not the one she wants.
