    Time Event
    10:15p
    Aloof, obnoxious and a biter
I don’t think I realized until tonight’s episode of Gilmore Girls that Paris and Michel are two manifestations of the same person. Maybe it’s because both of them crossed a line tonight, from obnoxiously entertaining to truly annoying. Paris was less than sensitive to Rory’s feelings about her grandfather as she plowed ahead with her post-college résumé plan, and Michel was overly sensitive about his dead dog, without allowing for Lorelai’s slightly more complex array of problems. Both of these characters, whom I’ve liked all along, crossed a line.

The other dichotomy, of course, is the way the men in Rory’s and Lorelai’s lives are reacting to the possibility that the two women have a life that includes more than just their significant others. On very little evidence, Christopher distances himself from Lorelai over a perceived connection with Luke. (It probably matters a little that the connection is more real than the lack of evidence, but still. He pushed her away on a pretty flimsy excuse.)

Logan, on the other hand, accepts that Rory is a woman with a world full of possibilities in front of her, and the curiosity to explore it. He won’t hold her back, although it’s not surprising, after being drawn in by the controlling Paris, that she’s a bit insecure about it all. It’s kind of disconcerting to see her fumbling for words, though.

Anyway, two extremes, these guys. Not a lot of nuance.

It’s a good thing this episode had character, because plotting was a little weak. And I’m still in a mood to blame the writers for the lack of snap in the dialogue, although the fight in the inn between Lorelai and Christopher cheered me briefly. It was a little one-sided, though, probably because she had the more defensible position, even though he was, in his way, right. And then she had to go and ruin it by practically begging him to come back and give her another chance. The show makes me want to kick a little furry dog sometimes, but that just proves I care.
