I had it almost right on Desmond. I thought he was living life back-to-front, Merlin-style, but instead of the
Memento scenario, it turns out to be something a even more chilling. It was kind of a curse when he learned in the pub, watching football and seeing Jimmy Lennon come through the door with a cricket bat, that he can change things, after all. But as he learned from the woman in the jewelry store, he can only postpone the inevitable, not reverse it. His own destiny is to see the destiny of everyone else, and it
is a curse. If there’s another major character doomed to die soon on
Lost, I guess we now know who it is. Some people don’t want to watch the show unless it advances the story of the original characters on the island, but to me the back stories are everything. And this was one of the most remarkable episodes since the magical first season.
