Knocking on heaven's door
My expectations were a little too high, I guess, for tonight’s Bob Dylan-themed episode of
Cold Case. If you’re going to use the Dylan canon to underscore a television show, it should have a little more substance to it than yet another lame rehash of seventies antiwar radicalism. That particular theme has been handled many times in scenarios similar to this, and some of them were better. One thing they all have in common is that they don’t get it right. The sixties and seventies are part of our history, and they’re being rewritten as such, with archetypal characters instead of real people, and always repeating the same lies, that protesters were irrationally violent and threw eggs at returning veterans. I’m not sure that ever happened, but it’s accepted as fact because of shows like this. Dylan would roll over in his grave to see those times desecrated this way. (Well, he would if he were dead.)
