Survivor: Fiji might not be “reality,” but it’s pretty clear it isn’t fixed, either. I can’t believe the producers would have wanted us to endure a game this tediously one-sided. I don’t even think it’s the deprived living situation that is causing Ravu to lose every challenge. They’ve had chances to win every time, but they just can’t get the job done. They’re a pretty lame tribe, from all the evidence so far. I still have hope, because of what happened last season in the Cook Islands. That adventure started weakly, with the tribes divided by race, but it ended up being one of the best seasons ever because of the personalities that came through after the tribes were reshuffled. I’m confidently hopeful that something similar will save this season, which frankly isn’t all that compelling just yet. Maybe Moto will get fat and lazy, living on the luxury island, or maybe Ravu will weed out the weak links. I haven’t given up on Fiji yet, but it has to turn a corner soon.
