I can’t feel my hips
As someone who is thoroughly unqualified to judge a dancing competition, I’m nevertheless fully prepared to weigh in on tonight’s season premiere of
Dancing With the Stars. First of all, Heather Mills, you may have got through the night without anyone mentioning Sir Paul, but we know who you are, and I think there will be an automatic backlash, regardless of how courageous you are to overcome your handicap. That nastiness of the tabloid divorce is definitely not in your favor.
The charisma of Apolo Anton Ohno, the youth of Shandi Finnessey and Brian Fortuna, and the personality of Joey Fatone are likely to keep them around for several weeks. Plus, they’re all good dancers, so that helps, too (although it’s apparently not the determining factor, based on last year’s finale). You can’t tell me that the Disney Channel’s fans of Billy Ray Cyrus won’t vote for him, if they’re allowed to stay up late enough to watch. Clyde Drexler is a lovely, lovely man, but I thought the judges were a little too kind to him. I hope he stays, though, because I’d like to see him improve.
I watched the first season of
Dancing With the Stars, then skipped the next two. I’m not committed to watching this whole fourth season, but as long as I can TiVo the show and fast-forward through the endless fluff, I might keep watching for awhile. I’ll be interested to see if it’s Leeza Gibbons or John Ratzenberger who gets booted off next week, for one thing.
