    Time Event
    9:45p
Four hours of Barnes and Noble, I feel like Crocodile Dundee
I can’t say I’m either surprised or sad to see Leslie voted out of Survivor: China tonight. She lost me on Day 1 when she refused to respect local customs in the non-religious ceremony in the temple, because she felt they somehow conflicted with her Christian values. Anyone with that narrow a sense of tolerance is out of place in a game that’s mostly social. (At least, I hope Survivor: China becomes mostly social at some point. At this point it’s mostly big brute strength against the physically less imposing. I didn’t sign up to watch the biggest guys sail through to the end, but I also trust the producers to twist things up if it seems to be going that way. On the other hand, James is the biggest, baddest dude in Survivor history, and still my favorite.)

Anyway, I’m not a fan of proselytizing zealots of any stripe, even the ones who profess to love everybody. I did like her better than I like Jean-Robert, who made some pretty crude comments about Courtney that she and Todd overheard. He also nuzzled the women in his sleep. Didn’t someone on Survivor: Thailand become a pariah for doing the same thing? Ted, right? And I don’t think he snored as loudly as Jean-Robert.

But I don’t think Leslie was voted out for religious reasons as much as for not knowing how to keep her mouth shut. When she was kidnapped by Zhan Hu, she gave up too much information about her tribe’s dynamics, and when she returned to Fei Long, she was too open about how well she bonded with the other tribe. I don’t think she was actually disloyal. I just think she didn’t know how not to appear disloyal. It’s funny that she’s the one who said Jean-Robert didn’t “get” the social part of Survivor.
