    Time Event
    11:05p
    Found your inner naughty boys
Knowing it was Queen Week on The Next Great American Band, the band I most wanted to see play tonight was Dot Dot Dot, because I think they have the personnel to do justice to Queen’s music and Freddie Mercury’s stage presence. Sadly, it was not to be, as they were the band eliminated this week. Still, the four bands who did play all represented Queen well. I think two of them (Light of Doom and DMHO) have a niche audience that have kept them on the show, and the other two are so tight musically and vocally that they absolutely deserve to be there.

I was happy to see the Clark Brothers muscle up with some new members, but it’s still Ashley’s vocals that make this band unique (and my favorite). Their version of “These Are the Days of Our Lives” was one of their best of the season, and Sixwire was equally impressive with “Fat Bottomed Girls,” a song that seems difficult to make sound like anything but Queen. They did it, though.

The original songs they performed tonight allowed each band to showcase what they think are their strengths. For the most part, that’s what they did, although I have to say that none of the originals impressed me as much as the performances attached to them. The best of a fairly pedestrian lot was Sixwire’s “Go On.”

Denver and the Mile High Orchestra want to be taken seriously as a Christian funk band, and they probably can corner that market if they stick with it. The Clark Brothers did a great job with a weak song, but Light of Doom seemed like a kids’ garage band for the first time all season. If I didn’t think there were a million twelve-year-old girls with their voting number on speed dial, I’d say it might be the end for them this week.
