You won’t take us ’cause we’re wet?
During the course of
The Amazing Race, relationships between team members are always tested. At this stage of the current season, we have three dating couples, plus a father and daughter, a grandfather and grandson, and a brother and sister. Before tonight, all three of the teams that are related by family ties were still in the race after five elimination legs. All three of these family relationships have shown strain, but tonight’s eliminated team is the one whose bond seemed strongest. It was sad to see Azaria and Hendekea go, but it really opens up the race, because they appeared to have a decided physical advantage over all of the other five teams.
The episodes this season have been about evenly divided between general airport mayhem and madness, and the various tasks and challenges the teams have to complete. I have to admit that I’m really enjoying the confusion at the airports, and tonight’s was a doozy.
Because of delays in various cities all over Eastern Europe, teams that started in comfortable positions were lucky to stay in the race, and teams that looked as if they were going to be out of it made big advances. Sure, Nicolas and Donald are still last, but they ground it out despite their problems with navigation. And somehow Ronald and Christina parlayed the good fortune of getting on a lucky flight into a first place finish. Even Nate and Jen, who can’t stand each other and do just about everything wrong, are right in the middle of the pack at third.
With five teams left, I’d be hard pressed to predict who’s going to win this edition of the race. And if I had to choose who I want to win, I’d be torn between the Goths, Kynt and Vyxsin, who seem to be losing some of their energy (along with some of their makeup), and TK and Rachel, who are low-key, steady and always positive. Those are my two favorite teams, but the other three are more fun to watch, because you never know what they’re going to say or do to each other. Jen hates Nate with a passion, Nicolas gets impatient with the methodical Donald, and Christina and Ronald are never on the same page. Good times!
