We’re probably gonna lose because the car’s gonna break
It seems we were misled by CBS into believing that there would be no non-elimination legs on
The Amazing Race 12 (because that’s what they told us when the race started). Still, this has been a great season, and I’m perfectly happy to have it extended by two legs, just as I’m thrilled to have Kynt and Vyxsin still along for the ride. They need a chance to get back to the happy Goths we grew to love, after a serious meltdown tonight, where she accused him of breaking the car after he yelled at her to let him drive. They really had problems with directions in Italy, and I don’t have a lot of hope for them next time, but it will be fun to watch them scramble.
Meanwhile, for once, we didn’t have endless drama while waiting around airports. Buses and ferries gave the teams no problem. Cars were another matter, and TK had a serious setback in the ultralight. It took him so long to find the clue that he and Rachel went from second to last in a flash, as the other teams, the ones who easily found the clue from the air, passed them by. They escaped last place by being smart enough to put Leonardo’s crane together, something none of the others even attempted. And, of course, they were helped out by TK’s tire-changing ability and Vyxsin’s problem with directions.
Nicolas and Donald took the Fast Forward and thoroughly deserved their first place finish. I understand why Donald hesitated at the tattoo parlor. I think I would have done the same thing, but once you’re that close to winning the race, after having been even closer to elimination on the last two legs, why not go all in? Anyway, it’s a tasteful little tattoo. I would never volunteer to get one, but if I were in their situation, I’d go for it just as they did.
As usual, the other two teams -- Nate and Jen, and Ronald and Christina -- were fine, as long as things were going well. They’ve both had moments on the race when they’ve been at each other’s throats, but not so much tonight. In fact, it was cool to see Jen being so patient with Nate at the Detour, and just as cool to see him allow her to take the lead and teach him the flag routine. I don’t think I have a favorite in the race any longer, but I’d like to see the winner be a team that connects and communicates and encourages each other. And I’m glad we’ll have a couple of extra weeks to let that happen, so I forgive CBS for lying to us.
