    Time Event
    9:36p
    I'm screwy right now
That was either masterful editing, or I’m a complete idiot, because I was sure Fairplay’s tears were fake. I was shouting at Ami and Eliza, “Don’t change the plan!” because I thought the alliance of four lovebirds would join with Fairplay to vote out Eliza at the first Tribal Council of Survivor: Micronesia. But no! I mean, I still don’t believe he’s turned into a nice guy, and I’m still wary of the tears, and I could never warm up to someone who played the dead grandmother card so coolly, but the fact remains that Fairplay is gone. I’m still not sure what happened, and I wonder what he would have done if Yau-Man hadn’t wrestled the Immunity Idol away from him.

Now, let’s talk about the concept of “Fans vs. Favorites.” The reason I think it’s going to work is that there is diversity of attitudes and playing styles on both tribes. It’s not going to be quite as interesting without Fairplay, but there are still players among the Favorites who can pull the game in many different directions. We still have Ami and Jonathan, who have proven they will turn on anyone to advance themselves, and Amanda, who has probably the best strategic mind among the Favorites. It’s definitely not going to be dull on that island.

We didn’t really get to know much about the Fans tonight, but we didn’t need to, because they won the Immunity Challenge, and all ten of them will be back next week. But they seem to have the right mix of confidence, enthusiasm, and a healthy skepticism. If they’re truly fans of Survivor, they know how the game is played. It’s just too bad they didn’t know how to make a decent shelter or get fire that first night.

But I have a lot of hope that one day, some of them will be Favorites themselves -- possibly even Kathy, the clueless golf course vendor who doesn’t relate to people the way you’d think a seasoned fan of the game would. On the other hand, she has an Idol that will keep her from being voted out first, if she’s smart enough to hang onto it.
