When you think about it, Ami, Erik and Tracy wouldn’t have needed Chet’s approval to keep him and vote out Ozzy tonight on Survivor: Micronesia. What they would have needed was for him to vote for Ozzy, or Cirie or Amanda. If they knew he was going to vote for one of them, they could have voted the same way, whether Chet liked it or not. Apparently, Tracy wasn’t willing to make the move against her friend Chet, so the two of them ended up voting for Erik. I assume that was so that when the votes were read, the Favorites wouldn’t know which of them might be a target next time. (So that’s how the vote ended up 5-2 for Chet to leave tonight.)

Unfortunately, there probably won’t be a next time for Erik and Tracy, because it’s going to take a stroke of luck or a major twist for the two of them, as the last Fans on Malakal, to stick around much longer. With Chet gone, there’s no percentage for Ami to turn her back on the Favorites now.

It might not matter what Malakal does, if a merge doesn’t happen soon, because Airai is so much the stronger tribe. Well, they do have James, don’t they? He might be unhappy to be the only man among women, but it’s working for them. It would be unwise for them to vote him out until the merge is imminent. Could they have won that Immunity Challenge tonight without him? Since he did all the work, I kind of doubt it. From what I know about him, I’m sure the change in tactics that so surprised Jeff was an idea James came up with. He’s always willing to take on the bulk of the work, around camp or in challenges.

As prickly as Jonathan has always been, and as underhanded as his strategy sometimes seems, he added a lot to both seasons that he’s been on, and it was sad to see him leave for health reasons. I’d much rather have seen him blindsided or voted out some other way. He’s been the season’s go-to guy for a sound bite, and he will be missed.
