A weird beach luau
I have nothing against Mariah Carey, but I’m not one of her slavishly devoted fans, either. There was no comparing with the original going on in my mind as I watched the last seven on
American Idol perform her songs. (I won’t say
top seven, with Michael Johns gone and Kristy Lee Cook still there.) What was going on mostly was boredom. All these diva songs sound pretty much the same to me, and I found myself even more than usual looking forward to what David Cook would do, because I knew he’d have something different to bring to the songs. And I was not disappointed, as his version of “Always Be My Baby” was by far the most compelling performance of the night. I voted for him not because I care who wins, but because I want to see what he’ll do next week. (But I do think he should win.) My top two this week: David C. and David A. My bottom three: everybody else, with special mention for Kristy and Brooke.
