    Time Event
    10:55p
    Frenetic, hectic and desperate
I’m afraid I sometimes tend to think of Salt Lake City as if it were a foreign capital, like Reykjavik or Kabul. So I was a little surprised to see it featured tonight on So You Think You Can Dance. Who knew they had a strip club DJ who danced like nobody else we’ve seen this year? Ryann Race’s fluid body movements were unique, and Kelli Baker, the High School Musical star, was breathtakingly good. There has to be one inspirational story at every audition, and tonight it was Brett Banford, who just wanted to show that someone with Down syndrome could keep up and make the audience smile. It was nice to see a whole city full of dancers who stood out from the crowd, and it was especially good to see the ones who were rejected return cheerfully to their normal lives.

Dallas brought the attitude we’re used to seeing from delusional losers, but that city also had its share of talent. We just didn’t get to see much of it on tonight’s show. The standout was breaker Joshua Allen, who soared over the stage in amazing ways. There must have been more good dancers in Dallas, because they sent forty of them through to Vegas, but we didn’t get to see many of them tonight. Maybe they’re saving the best ones for the next round.
