    Time Event
    10:27p
    You tweaked and you freaked
What I’m afraid of is that some very good dancers are going to be victims of the luck of the draw, especially in the early rounds of So You Think You Can Dance. Rayven and Jamie were stuck at the opening of the show, with an absolutely charming hip hop routine, and by the end they had been overshadowed by several other couples. Courtney and Gev closed the night with the most boring disco routine, which is unfortunate, since disco is already known as the dance of death on this show. This is a shame, because Courtney has been one of my favorites from the early auditions. Susie and Marquis had no shot to make an impact, despite their big personalities, because they drew the smooth waltz. They may have been technically perfect, but it was also perfectly forgettable.

For me, the show didn’t come to life until Chelsie and Mark did Mia Michaels’ “Tim Burton’s Wedding” routine. I may make it my personal mission to see that this couple gets votes every week, because she is gorgeous and a great dancer, and he is such an interesting performer that you can’t take your eyes off him. I have a similar view on Twitch and Kherington, who are wonderful to watch together and capable of capturing the stage with just about any genre. The proved that tonight with Tice Diorio’s Broadway routine. And I simply love Comfort and Chris. She was a hot little ball of fire, a hip hop dancer who came alive in bra and beads. He is a true performer who showed great technique doing the jive. Dan Karaty questioned their chemistry, but it was pretty obvious to me.

The prize for best chemistry of all, though, and the best moment of the night, goes to Katee and Joshua. What a brilliant pairing this is, because here are two emotional personalities who are also emotional performers. Their hip hop routine brought a lump to my throat, and I was in awe of the combination of tenderness and power that they showed. I voted for several couples tonight, but I threw more votes to these two than anyone else. I also rewound and watched their number more times than any of the others, and that’s a pretty good sign.
